When you are discussing a lock box, they can be used for a number of things. They can range in size from a small box you can hold in your hand to being as big as a microwave. As the name indicates, they use a key to unlock the box. Some of the modern lock boxes may now have a keypad that requires you to type in a number to open it. They can be used to store anything from money to guns. When you lock up your guns, you are helping to prevent an unauthorized individual and children from getting to them. Some are used to store and protect jewelry and valuable documents from fire.
Other uses for lock boxes can include:
• Medical community-this is a box that hangs on the back of a door that can use bust to store specimens temporarily for pickup. This is a safe option if the medical driver is unable to make it to the office before it closes. The medical driver and office staff will have keys for the lock. It could also be a box in an ambulance attached securely to the wall. It carries emergency supplies or controlled medications. Some even consider it a lock box where a nurse place used needles.
• Hotel rooms-this type of lock box usually has a numbered key pad that is reset after a guest checks out. It could be reset by the hotel or the next guest that uses the lock box to help ensure that the guest’s things in there are safe.
• Real estate-when a homeowner is trying to sell their home they will put a real estate lock box on their front lawn, usually near the front of the home. Inside the box is the key that will unlock the house for showing. Only the real estate agents and the office that are working with the homeowner will have the combination to the lock. This way if a potential buyer wants to look at the home but the owner or the listing agent is unavailable a real estate agent from the office can show the house.
To add further security to such locks an electronic lock box can be used. Inside of these boxes are microprocessors that will allow only certain keys to open them. This makes it harder for criminals to pick the lock. The only way that this type of lock can be opened is by using a key with a microchip that the box will accept. It can be used for almost all situations that call for a lock to be used except for a hotel lock, as a resettable combination lock is safer.
